Is Daxxify Worth it? My Honest Review of the New Botox Alternative

Is Daxxify Worth it? My Honest Review of the New Botox Alternative

Relatively new to the anti-aging scene, Daxxify is marketed as a longer-lasting alternative to Botox. But does it live up to all of the hype? In today’s post, I am dispelling the bullsh*t and giving you my honest review…

Since the ripe age of 24, I have routinely received Botox injections. What can I say? I am vain AF!

In all seriousness though, while I can certainly poke fun of my obsession with all things visual (I mean…look at what I do for a living), for me personally, Botox isn’t simply a matter of aesthetics.

Not only have injectable Neuromodulators helped with my resting b*tch face, they have also been highly effective in treating the tension headaches I have struggled with ever since I was a little girl. In fact, the first clue I know my treatment is wearing off is when my nagging headaches, squinting, and general facial tension begin to return.

And while I am a vocal devotee of this anti-aging modality, over the past year or so, I have begun experiencing a phenomenon known as “Botox resistance”.

Whether due to the fact that I metabolize the substance very quickly (I workout like a madwoman) or the fact that I have simply been receiving the product for well over a decade now and my body has formed an immunity, a few months ago my kick a$$ injector, Lindsay Bright FNP-C, suggested I try a new Botox substitute- Daxxify.

Promoted as the longer-lasting neuromodulator, the manufacturer claims that results can last anywhere from six to nine months (versus three to four with other leading neurotoxins).

Given my Botox was barely lasting me three months (more like two and a half), while I was pretty skeptical about such radical claims, I decided to go ahead and give Daxxify a shot (appreciate my play on words?).

Because I am not a licensed health practitioner, I am not even going to begin to get into the science and technicalities of the substance, but for your reference, you can read this brief comparison graphic I have included above. Now for my honest review…

Is Daxxify all it’s cracked up to be?

During my injection session, I received Daxxify to smooth my forehead wrinkles, lessen my glabellar lines (also known as 11 lines), and eliminate the crow’s feet around my eyes.

Within just 2-3 days, I could already notice an improvement in my forehead. After a week, I feel like my results were pretty much fully visible.

Unlike other products I have used in the past (specifically Xeomin), with Daxxify, I never noticed any post-treatment headaches or other negative side-effects.

That being said, I did notice that my eyebrows lowered just a bit more than I would have liked them to (apparently this is one common complaint about the product). Luckily, the brow drop didn’t last very long, yet the positive effects remained.

Does Daxxify really last 6 months?

While Daxxify lasted almost two months longer than any other neurotoxin I have received (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin), at nearly five months post-injection, my headaches and excessive squinting were returning. While my forehead still appeared impressively smooth in the photo above(4.5 months post-injection), my stubborn frown lines (also known as elevens) were beginning to surface again. And so…I decided this was the longest I could go before receiving additional treatment.

Final Thoughts on Daxxify:

Given that Daxxify requires basically double the units of a typical Botox treatment, while the per-unit price is less, considering total treatment cost, Daxxify is not necessarily going to save you money.

With that said, Daxxify definitely wins in terms of convenience. Where I had to once frequent my injector’s office 3-4 times a year with other neuromodulator products, with Daxxify, I could totally get by with only 2 visits a year.

While everyone reacts differently to various neuromodulator brands on the market, I would say the most pressing factor to be cautious about is your injector.

Because this product is so new, most providers will not be as experienced in using this product as with more established brands. It would really freaking suck if you chose an inexperienced injector and were stuck with botched results for nearly half a year (remember…you can dilute bad filler, but you can’t fix a botched neurotoxin job).
