5 Keto Products I Couldn’t Live Without

Following a keto or low carb diet doesn’t have to be completely miserable. In this post, I am sharing five keto snack products that have done a pretty decent job at satiating my cravings for carbs and/or sweets...

While I do not follow a rigid keto or low carb diet per se , manipulating my carbohydrate intake via “carb cycling” and striving to eat a low glycemic diet 90 percent of the time (a girl has to have her weekend margaritas) has been key to my recent weight loss success (you can read the details regarding my 20 pound weight loss here in this separate post).

Why would I eat keto products if I am not following a keto diet ?

Well…it all goes back to manipulating my carb intake to support optimal muscle growth (not to mention fueling my strenuous workouts) while also restricting certain macros where possible to “lean out”.

For me this looks like consuming carbohydrates post workout (paired with a protein of course)and in general, eating more carbohydrates on the days I lift heavy in the gym. On the days I don’t train as hard, I eat relatively low carb, but still high protein.

Carbohydrate tracking aside, I also have to consider the fact that my body does not tolerate sugar very well (even natural sources like fruits) as noted in doctor-ordered bloodwork. As a result, I try to only eat low-glycemic foods.

Of course, .in an ideal world, my diet would be totally free of processed foods, consisting of only organic vegetables and meats, but I simply don’t roll like that.

Thru several failed attempts with rigid “clean eating” and elimination diets (hell..I was strictly low-carb in the “before” photo above), I have learned the hard way that I actually have to enjoy the foods I put into my mouth. Not only that, but I don’t do well with deprivation (food is one of my greatest pleasures in life, ya’ll).

This is where the low carb and keto-friendly products have come to the rescue- satiating my naughty cravings and helping me to feel more freedom around food.

So that you don’t have to waste your hard-earned money on products that taste like cardboard (trust me..I have come across some duds), I am sharing my five favorite keto snack foods below…

1, Bhu Keto Bars-

I pretty much eat these BHU bars every night not only as a source of protein before going to bed, but as a sweet treat. Although I can’t speak on all the flavors, the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip flavor reminds me of a Reese’s Cup. While I have found these in the refrigerated section of Walmart, Target and Publix, you can also buy them off of Amazon. Just beware that these do have high fat content so if you don’t rigidly follow Keto, you will need to be mindful of this.

2. Healthy Life Keto Bread-

I must say that I almost wrote this brand off entirely after having a bad experience with their keto buns (I could not get past the sponge-like texture). But after visiting my mom’s house one day, I noticed this bread was on her counter. I asked how she liked it, and she said she enjoyed it for breakfast as toast. Craving a deli-style sandwich one day, I then tried some for myself -making a sandwich with organic lunchmeat, cheese and mustard. It totally did the trick! My favorite use has actually been toasting the bread (with grassfed butter) and using it with bacon and eggs for a low-carb breakfast sandwich. Publix, Walmart and Food City offer this Healthy Life Keto bread along with the buns (which oddly I couldn’t stomach).

3. Halo Top Keto Pops-

So I realize there are plenty of Keto ice creams out on the market at this point, but the problem with most of them is that I cannot trust myself with an entire pint of ice cream (most of the Keto versions can have upwards of 600 calories per pint..yikes!). What I love about this Halo Top Keto Pop ice cream is the pre-packaged serving size (so that I don’t have to practice any willpower). At only 180 calories a pop, this is a much safer option for me versus a 600 calorie pint-sized serving. Tip: I found these pops in the ice cream section of my local Walmart.

4. Primal Kitchen Dressings and Condiments-

If you aren’t a big label reader, it might surprise you to discover just how many dressings and condiments are chock full of sugars. Not only are the Primal Kitchen dressings keto-friendly, they are Whole 30 and Paleo approved. Void of inflammatory oils like Soy and Canola, this brand is on the pricey side, but made of only high-quality oils and ingredients. In addition to dressings (I use the ranch like it’s going out of style), they also offer sugar-free ketchup, bbq sauce, Mayo and pasta sauces. Note: Because the dressings can be high in fat (avocado oil based)and I am not strictly keto, I am careful to measure out my portions. I have seen this brand in Target, Publix and on Amazon.

5. Birch Blenders dessert cups-

When I get the munchies for something warm and chocolatey, I know I can depend on these Birch Blender brownie cups to satisfy my cravings. Not only are they easy to make (all you need is water and a microwave), I love how they are packed in individual serving sizes so that I can’t chow down on an entire pan at once. While I only eat these on the occasional weekend, they are great to have on hand for those nights when I have had a wee bit too much wine and my inhibitions are zilch. I have also tried the Chocolate Chip Cookie cup and it was equally delish. Eventually, I would like to try this brand’s line of frosting. Every time I am a Walmart, I am sure to stock up on these yummy treats. You can also purchase these (along with many other flavors) on Amazon.

While I will be getting back to the normal DIY content next time, I hope these snack hacks helped some of you who may be struggling with your diet.

Sure…processed foods are not ideal, but sometimes you just have to have some good ol’ fashion comfort food.
