I Tried Dermaplaning and Here’s What Happened

If you follow my stories on Instagram, you probably know by now that I am a complete Botox junkie.  Unlike Queen Bey , my a$$ did NOT wake up like this!

And while poking my face with injectables is something I have done for years now, I have to admit that I had been overlooking another integral component of beauty and anti-aging…my complexion.

The silliest aspect of my whole skin-neglect situation is that my mother is actually a Licensed Medical Aesthetician who can basically hook me up whenever I need.

At this point, you are probably wondering what the heck my problem was. Well…

Truth be told, I had seen some of my friends post-chemical peel and let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. Call me crazy, but  I really had no desire to walk around looking like Freddy Krueger for a week. As a result, I avoided the more aggressive skin treatments like the plague.

After finally voicing my concerns to my mama (wanting to achieve glowing skin without having to look crazy for days), she recommended I try Dermaplaning.

And so, I somewhat anxiously agreed….

my honest review of dermaplaning skin treatment

What is Dermaplaning?

For those of you who have never heard of Dermaplaning, it is a highly effective means of skin exfoliation.  Using a surgical blade, the specialist applies a light stroking motion to the top layer of the skin- sloughing away dull skin to reveal a fresh, glowing layer of the dermis.

While this does sound a bit intimidating, the procedure itself was actually quite relaxing and only took one hour to complete.

Typically, one session of Dermaplaning will require an investment of around $75 and , if desired, the treatment can be performed once every 30 days.

My Honest Review of Dermaplaning

Minutes into my session, it became apparent that my skin was not in the best of shape. Essentially, I had not been exfoliating like I needed to (regardless of the fact that I used a Clarisonic facial scrubber every single night!!)

Pictured below is all of the nastiness that was removed from my face in one single session of Dermaplaning…

Because my face was in such bad shape, to further promote new skin-cell turnover,  my mom went ahead and applied one single pass of Chemical Peel (immediately following the Dermaplaning).

While the single pass of Chemical Peel did burn like hell, it only caused redness for up to 30 minutes post-treatment. And because all of the dead skin had been removed (via Dermaplaning) prior to the chemical peel, I never had to look Freddy Kreuger.

I really can’t believe I waited this long to have a skin treatment of this nature, but let me just tell you…I am in love with my results.

Now a week out from my session, my skin is still as smooth as a baby’s bottom. Not only is it silky smooth, it glows. Without a doubt, I will be doing this once a month from now on.

Just to give you some visual evidence, below is a before and after of me immediately post-treatment…

The redness in my “after” was most-likely a result of the Chemical Peel, but it subsided within thirty minutes of my session.

Now brace yourself for some familial promotion here…

If any of you in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area are looking for a top-notch, Licensed Medical Aesthetican, you need to book a consult with my mother, Tonya Waller at Flawless Aesthetics . She specializes in Microblading, Chemical Peels, Laser Technology and Dermaplaning.

For an appointment, you can give her a call at 423-206-9500!

And look at her fabulous treatment room (I am sure this looks familiar to many of you)…

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been curious about this procedure and wondering if it would be worth it. I do have a question tho - I noticed that facial hair was removed along with the dead skin cells. Did your facial hair grow back like normal or is it darker and thicker than before? I'm Latina and I am NOT interested in growing a mustache and beard! LOL. Also - YOUR EYELASHES!! OMG - WTH - they are gorgeous!! Are they extensions or are they yours???

I know all about the your concerns with the facial hair (I have a lot of it myself. haha!) I am only a week out from the procedure, so I can not say yet how it will affect the re-growth of the hair. My mom did say it could perhaps make the hair appear thicker but it would only be an optical illusion (basically the angle at which the hair follicle grows back could potentially cause it to look thicker than what it actually is). Only time will tell I suppose. Thank you so much for your sweet words, girl. xoxo
