In search of modern Christmas decorating inspiration that still retains a hint of warmth and nostalgia? Today I am sharing my 2025 Holiday Home Tour which includes a blend of edgy moodiness along with touches of traditional Yuletide cheer…
To all of my OG readers out there, let me first apologize that this post is coming to you much later than usual.
While I typically pride myself on getting my Christmas tour out no later than the first week of December, let’s just say that my personal life has been a bit of a shi*t show lately.
From ER visits and surgeries involving the broken bones of my rambunctious ten-year-old, to managing some surprise homeowner nightmares, with what limited time I had, my client obligations had to be prioritized over the blog this year.
And to be brutally honest, while I was soooo freaking close to forgoing this annual tradition altogether, something inside of me would just not let me neglect you like that. So this weekend, guzzling an ungodly amount of caffeine, I put my big girl panties on and frantically decorated and photographed my house to share with you. Tis’ the season I suppose!
So now with that long-winded prelude out of the way, I hope you’ll agree with the old adage: better late than never…
Pour your favorite drink, kick back and relax. Welcome to my 1970’s lake cottage.
Here in my living room, I utilized textures like velvet and fur to evoke a sense of elevated coziness.
To warm up the high contrast space, I injected some pops of traditional Christmas colors this year with deep greens and burgundies (as seen on the bottle brush trees, pillow and ribbon).
Unfortunately, by the time I got to shopping for my Christmas ribbon, my favorite velvet burgundy variety from last year was already out of stock. Womp…Womp!
So to make the ribbon I already had from last year go a bit further, I didn’t form proper bows on some of my holiday greenery. In fact, towards the last of my holiday decorating, I actually had to get really crafty by piecing together ribbon scraps with hot glue.
While I am such a sucker for a real Christmas tree, this year, I decided to resort back to my trusty old artificial flocked tree. And although I am definitely missing the scent of a real Frasier fir, I do looove the way the white flocking pops against my moody, black walls.
In an effort to reinvent this flocked tree from years past, I adorned it with beaded garland and burgundy velvet ornaments. While it is a very subtle change, I do my best to share new ideas with you each year.
Not sure if you noticed yet or not, but my living room in general is actually different from last year.
I finally got around to installing a chandelier here, and took the plunge painting the ceiling the same color as the walls (Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams).
Unfortunately, the ceiling paint does not take dark tint very well (the guy at Benjamin Moore warned us that might happen)and I will eventually need to apply another coat of paint to even the finish out. But as my life stands, my ceiling is really the least of my concerns.
Moving on to my kitchen, the double-sided brick fireplace naturally sets the scene for a cozy Christmas. And actually, this is what I consider to be the focal “vintage” element in home.
Playing off of that vintage hardscape, I tied burgundy velvet ribbons on my light sconces and greenery.
There’s nothing like dried orange slices to add a sense of nostalgia along with a delicious aroma.
And I love how these off-white bottle brush trees make my coffee station a little more festive.
Now onto our last stop of the tour today…
My modern, minimal dining room.
For some holiday magic in this open, A-frame, I placed a pencil tree right in the center of the glass doors. And yes…the top of the tree’s lights have totally died out ( I don’t even have one f**K left to bother with it).
Carrying the traditional holiday color scheme into this space, I repeated the same velvet ribbon on the sconces and the candle holders.
In an effort to keep the feel minimal and uncluttered, I really didn’t add additional holiday decor here other than cedar garland and ribbon.
To create a last-minute holiday centerpiece on a budget, I worked with items I already had on hand (faux cedar stems, faux berry twigs and candles). No need to complicate things!
As my tour comes to a close, I want to give each and everyone one of you a big, virtual hug.
I am so thankful for your continued support, and I am wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
In an ever-changing digital landscape being slowly infiltrated with AI, blogging as a profession has become more and more of a challenge. Nonetheless, I thank God everyday for readers like YOU! Thank you!
