Looking for chic yet simple ways to style your fireplace this holiday season? Well you have come to the right place! Today, I am sharing 10 Christmas fireplace decorating ideas for every aesthetic…
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite ways to spend the holiday season is cozied up by a fire.
What can I say? Not only do I use Christmas as an excuse to deviate from my diet ,stuffing my face with chocolate chip cookies on the daily, I also use the holidays as an excuse to burn through my meager propane budget (one of my biggest beefs with gas logs).
But in all seriousness, aside from the tree, the fireplace is one of the most important zones for holiday decorating. After all, it’s not only the focal point of the room, it’s also where you hang your stockings and roast chestnuts over the open fire (let’s be real though… who TF actually does that?).
To ensure your fireplace doesn’t get overlooked this Christmas, we are going to go ahead and start strategizing our holiday decor plan right…freakin…now! Directly below, I have rounded up some fabulous decorating inspo- applicable for any aesthetic…
1. Asymmetrical Mantel Styling-
What I particularly love about this look is that it leans minimal while still evoking all the holiday feels. Just be prepared to have at least two sets of garland so that your greenery can hang low on one side and create that dramatic visual impact.
2. Whimsical Christmas Decor-
For a Scandinavian winter-wonderland feel, don’t be afraid to incorporate multiple layers of holiday decor into your fireplace styling. Evoking a playful energy, I used a combination of pom-pom and evergreen garland along with bottle brush trees and Nordic village houses.
Tip: So that your decor looks intentional , be sure to style your pieces in groupings of twos and threes.
3. Layered Stockings-
If you love the look of white fur stockings but feel they fall flat and even a bit stark on against your white fireplace, pair them with a warmer-toned variety. This is what I had to do for my whitewashed brick fireplace back at my former abode.
4. Fireplace with No Mantel-
While a mantel definitely makes decorating your fireplace for the holidays easier, if you are like me and simply do not have one to work with, don’t let that deter you from adding a little fireside Christmas cheer.
First, I added some cedar sprigs and ribbon to the modern art work that was already mounted to the fireplace. Then, for added cozy feels, I used masonry screws to hang my kiddos’ stockings. Of course, for a less-damaging approach, feel free to use command strips to hang your stockings and garland.
5. White Christmas-
If you are dreaming of a white Christmas this year, take a cue from Krystal Schelgel Davis and adorn your mantel with all-white holiday decor. For a touch of magical warmth, don’t forget to add some warm white lights to your flocked garland!
6. Brass Bling-
One of my favorite ways to zhuzh up a lackluster space is to inject a bit of brass bling into the mix, and this gorgeous fireplace styled by Melissa Braedly perfectly proves my case. If you too are craving some understated glam, consider adding brass bells and candle holders to your holiday mantel!
7. Cottage Cozy-
Craving cozy simplicity this Christmas? Consider displaying a collection of your favorite holiday pieces on your fireplace hearth like A Life Unfolding did here. For added effect, don’t forget the fresh pine garland!
8. Bottlebrush Tree Display-
In recent years, bottlebrush trees have become one of my favorite holiday decor pieces because of their incredible versatility (I mean…they look good pretty much everywhere). If you already own a collection of these trees, consider displaying them on the center of your fireplace mantel like Our Crafty Mom did here.
Just be sure to incorporate various colors and sizes as this is what keeps the eye engaged.
9. Festive Banner-
If your current fireplace styling is falling a little flat, there’s nothing like a “Merry Christmas” banner to give your mantel a little more personality. I love how the gold in the banner lettering ties into the metallic finish on the candle holders – creating gorgeous cohesion.
I also love how Studio McGee cleverly incorporated white table top trees as a way to give the eye a place to rest- festive “white space” at its freakin’ best.
10. Modern Minimalism-
If the idea of styling your fireplace is either 1). too overwhelming or 2). doesn’t mesh with you minimalist modern aesthetic, not to fret! This impeccable space by Matilda Espy Home gives us all permission to just say f**ck it ! With a fireplace that gorgeous, the glow of the embers and the adjacent Christmas tree is all of the holiday magic you need anyhow!
No matter which idea you ultimately decide to run with, I hope your holiday fireplace serves as the perfect backdrop for a warm, cozy Christmas filled with love and laughter!
