We Bought a Midcentury Modern Lake Cottage!

After a two-year house hunt, I cannot believe the day has come to be sharing a quick walk-thru tour (using the MLS listing photos) of my new midcentury modern, lake cottage with you today …
As the Steve Miller Band once sang,
You know you got to go through hell
Before you get to heaven!
Well….my family and I have finally made it to what I call mother-effing heaven.

While purchasing a forever home in this crazy market is definitely not for the faint of heart, we somehow did it!

Even more miraculous? Our forever home turned out to be even more incredible than we ever could have expected – a midcentury modern cottage on the lake with plenty of yard for my little ones to roam (it actually sits on a bird sanctuary)!

Given we just finished an extremely difficult move this past week into our new abode (by difficult…I mean the entire family was ravaged with a stomach bug- literal sh*t and vomit show) , I have taken the easy way out today, by simply pulling the photos off of the MLS listing to share with you. Hell…I figured something was better than nothing!

Rest assured, however, that I am going to be documenting this incredible house myself once we get somewhat settled. Generic real estate photos simply don’t do this place justice.

The house was built in the 1970’s, but the previous owners meticulously (not to mention very tastefully) renovated the once neglected space and as a result, we plan on only doing minor cosmetic updates at first.

Basically…. we only plan on doing smaller projects and decorating the space in a way that feels specifically “us”.

While I am currently in the process of feeling the heartbeat of the home out, I can already tell that I want to speak more to the midcentury modern aspects of it.

Being privileged enough to purchase a house of this size (hello gigantic feasting table!)… on the lake…aaand with a huge inground pool, is something I never would have dreamed would be possible for me and my family.

But having the faith and courage to sale our beloved rancher – the home we poured our blood, sweat and tears into for over 7 years- in this heavily inflated market (we had 17 offers on our old house), played a considerable role in the ability to purchase this gem. It was a calculated risk that I believe paid off immensely…

I still have a few projects from our old home lined up for the blog over the next few weeks, so if you want to see real-time videos of the new place, be sure to watch my stories on Instagram ( follow me @designingvibes). You can view the highlight “New house” to catch up on all the behind-the-scenes.
Ultimately, I am living proof that with faith and consistency, dreams can come true.

Over those two long years of looking at loads of houses (and 3 out-bidded offers), we seriously began to doubt that we would ever find a house that we loved more than our trusty ol’ fixer upper, but to my delight, this place met all of our non-negotiables (like more space for our children to play and plenty of natural light for me) along with features we never thought possible.
All of this to say that if I can do it, you can freakin’ too!
Now get out there and design some good vibes along with a fabulous life!

It’s absolutely stunning! What a dream come true. Definitely checks all my boxes. Congratulations!!!
