Looking for neutral, “non-themey” ways to decorate your modern, minimal home for fall? In today’s post I am sharing a tour of my living room decorated with only subtle autumnal touches along with a few solid styling tips. At the bottom of the post, you will have the opportunity to shop the look.
Since adapting a more modern, minimal approach to decorating, it seems I have lost the urge to style my home for each changing season.
My logic?…..
If it ain’t broke, don’t f**k with it.
Well …that AND the fact that clutter in my closets and garage make me feel stressed and bogged TF down.
Add to the fact that we are preparing to sell our house, and I actually considered skipping over a fall tour this year on the blog entirely.

But then..
the mornings got cooler..
the blue skies more crisp..
and, like clockwork, the basic b*tch in me was compelled to begin stockpiling Pumpkin Latte candles .
Like a domino effect, I then decided to “cozy things up” a bit in my living room. What can I say? Pumpkin Latte is quite an intoxicating fragrance!
So out came the chunky knits and earth toned pillow covers.
While I vowed not to purchase any new fall decor, I did decide to invest in some new pillow covers .
In addition, I grabbed a few more Pampas stems from Kirklands.
I warmed up the white focal wall of my living room by trading out my white Ikea drapes for these greige curtains I found on Amazon for only $18/per panel.
While I normally go crazy with pumpkins, I wanted to keep my house edited and staged to sell. So…
Only one single white pumpkin adorns my coffee table.
As a nod to one of my favorite holidays (Halloween), I also incorporated some edge and fright with this bronze skull I purchased last year from Michaels. Click here to see last year’s Halloween Tour.
So to wrap this tour up, I want to provide a few surefire fall decorating tips…
How To Easily Decorate Your Neutral Modern Home for Fall:
If you are looking to incorporate non-themey, non-tacky touches of fall spirit into your neutral, modern decor, I suggest you consider the following…
- Embrace warmer, heavier fabrics and textures like chunky knits and velvet.
- Cozy up your color scheme with warm earth tones ( browns, olive greens, tans, beiges, creams or blacks).
- Trade summer greenery for dried florals, stems from trees in your own backyard (think magnolia) or Pampas grass.
- Unleash your inner basic b*tch with all the pumpkin candles your heart desires. Scent is such an integral part of seasonal decorating.
