Are sliding furniture cushions driving you absolutely bonkers? Today, I am sharing a ridiculously easy hack to keep them put- once and for all! …
Outdoor furniture feels so much more cozy and luxurious when paired with upholstered cushions. But when said cushions constantly slip and slide, such an eyesore can completely overshadow the functionality of the pieces- causing someone like myself to completely spiral into obsessive complusive panic attacks.
This was certainly the case with my budget-friendly outdoor sofas on my screened-in-porch last summer…
If it wasn’t my rowdy a$$ kids, it was my sneaky fur babies, or even perfectly well-meaning adults, destroying my thoughtfully styled furniture simply by using it as intended.
By no fault of their own, the slippery polyester fabric paired with a rattan frame was unfortunately just a glorified slip-and-slide waiting to happen. But thanks to a common household item, unstable cushions are a thing of the past…
Let me show you the stupid simple hack I used to stop my furniture cushions from sliding!
How To Stop Cushions from Slipping Off Couch:
(Step. 1). Remove your cushions from the sofa.
(Step 2). Apply one set of velcro strips (hook and loop tape) to the frame of the sofa. I did this for each seat cushion. I used a total of 3 sets of velcro for each sofa.
(Step 3). Now apply another set of velcro to the bottom or back side of each cushion. Be sure to pair with the corresponding piece already on the sofa frame.
(Step 4). Last, place each cushion back onto the frame using some pressure to ensure that the velcro sets interlock. That’s it!
Considering just how simple this hack was, I was initially unsure how effective it would prove to be, but I am proud to report that the cushions have not budged since I applied the velcro strips onto them a whopping four months ago!
Tip: If for some reason you find the hook and loop tape not doing the trick, you could always add additional strips or you could add a rubber cushion grip underlay mat as well (they sell cushion grips for this specific application on Amazon, but they were a little pricier than simple velcro).
While it probably seems like such a minute detail in the grand design of a space, it truly makes my screened-in porch so much more enjoyable now that my type-A personality isn’t constantly having to adjust sofa cushions! Nope…no more spiraling into OCD fits, now I just get to be present while spending some time outdoors with friends and family.
Thank you so much for spending some time with me this week!
If you found this post helpful, it would mean so much to me if you could share it with a friend or on social media…

Erica I can use this for my sofa which has movable cushions. And yes they drive me crazy! I had previously used those rubber mats that go in kitchen shelving but they kept on rolling up. This is much smarter! Brilliant idea!

Well I hope it works for you, Mary! Good to know about the rubber mats...to me the velcro just seemed like it would withstand my crazy kids better. haha!
