A Rustic Modern Christmas Home Tour

If you are still looking for holiday decorating inspiration, you have come to the right freakin’ place, my friend. Along with 26 other bloggers, today I am opening my doors to you and sharing my home decorated for the 2022 Christmas Home Tour Blog Hop. Organized every year by my friend Marty of A Stroll Thru Life, it is always an honor to collaborate with such talented women. I hope you enjoy!
Before we begin my Rustic Modern Christmas home tour, I would first like to give you a virtual hug. Welcome to my home!

If you are joining me from Kristin’s dreamy cabin, it is so nice to meet you.
My name is Erica and after years of renovating a neglected 1980’s rancher DIY style, my family and I are spending our first Christmas in a new home.

While I say “new” , I simply mean ‘new’ to my family and I. In fact, the home is actually a midcentury modern lake cottage which we moved in to at the beginning of 2022, after selling our first-ever fixer upper home .

While this home is not a fixer upper per se, my husband and I have gradually been making cosmetic tweaks as budget allows.

One of the first changes we made was painting our den black.
To milk the dramatic effect of the black walls in this room, I decided to have some fun with high-contrasting holiday elements like a white flocked Christmas tree and a light-colored Pampas stem wreath- creating a snowy, winter wonderland effect.

To glam the masculine-leaning space up a bit for the festive season, I incorporated “blingy” metallics like copper, mercury glass and Champagne-hued ornaments.

Because most of this year’s home decor budget was quickly spent furnishing my new home, my goal this Christmas was frugality( AKA only using items I already owned).

In fact, the only purchase I made this year as far as holiday decor is concerned was a faux fur throw and some plum-colored ornaments.

I must say….I surprised my own damn self with my newfound willpower. Trust me…forgoing the retail therapy wasn’t easy!

Moving from the coziness of my den to the light and airy dining room, I decided to spruce up this open-concept space with some festive greenery.

To glam up the rustic garland a bit, I incorporated a strand of golden bell garland to the mix.

Desiring more dimension in this otherwise neutral, minimalist space, I utilized the plum-colored ornaments , which I had purchased for my flocked tree, to add some pops of warm holiday color.

Creating a simple, modern centerpiece, I placed some cedar stems into a black, footed bowl along with a mix of antique glass ornaments and newer Champagne and plum colored baubles.

When you are needing to inject some holiday magic without putting a hurtin’ on your wallet, never underestimate the power of candle light.

It truly makes all the difference and instantly elevates a space from ordinary to extraordinary.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas along with a happy holiday season!

What an absolutely beautiful home! Those beams are fantastic! I also held restraint in spending on holiday decor this year, and it was hard haha, but actually felt great! Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much, Jo-Anna. I agree with you…as hard as it was to cut back on the retail therapy, it felt great not contributing to more clutter and buyer’s remorse. haha. Merry christmas! 🙂
I’m loving your lake home and your Christmas decor coordinates perfectly. You inspired me to paint a small room 3 walls dark with wallpaper on the fourth. I was wondering about the curtain rods you have up with no curtains. Is this a new fad or are you just in the process of wondering what you’re going to do with those windows? I’m also a big DIY’er and a self taught decorator (known to drop the F bomb a time or two 🙂 with bits and pieces of training. I’m always on the look out for new things I need to know. Thanks for your inspirations and Happy Holidays!
Thank you so much for the kind words, Nancy. It sounds like we have a lot in common (including our love for the occasional f bomb haha). When you were asking about the curtain rods I was confused, but now I see what you are talking about. So, at the angle I took some of the photos, the curtain was obscured by my Christmas tree. However, if you look at one of the shots (taken on the other side of my couch) you will see how I do have curtains- there is simply only one curtain on side of each window (hope that makes sense). Wishing you and yours a happy holidays. xoxo
So many warm and cozy vibes – I just love it!
Thank you so much, Alexandra! Wishing you a Merry Christmas. 🙂

I love how you used what you had. We don’t need new every year. The black den looks beautiful and moody. Especially with the contrast of the flocked tree. Love the copper highlights. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much, Lori. I hope you have a fabulous holiday season.
