With autumn now officially upon us, we all have a good excuse to rethink not only our wardrobe and home decor, but our hair and nail color.
Perhaps it’s the more carefree, noncommittal nature of nail polish that I’m enjoying these days compared to the other aforementioned means of self-expression, but I’ve been so inspired by nail trends this year that I actually started experimenting with darker, bolder colors back in August.
And while I fully recognize it is probably a no-no of me, a (primarily) home decor blogger, to admit here publicly that the only fall design choice I have implemented this year is a darker nail color, so be it. There is no “one way” to honor the arrival of a new season!
If you’re looking for an excuse to step TF out of your comfort zone and express yourself in a new way this season, consider this your permission slip to try one of these trending nail colors- particularly appropriate for the colder months…
1. Taupe-
While my typical fall go-to is dark brown, in an effort to ease slower into the season, I decided to try a softer tone this year. As pictured above, I went with DND gel in the color 092 Russet Tan. While it is considered brown, its lilac undertones soften the brown- causing it to read more taupe in certain lighting conditions.
2. Cherry Mocha-
While rich burgundy tones have always been a timeless choice for fall, a particular hue of purple-brown has become all the rage this year. In an effort to experiment with”it-girl” vibes, just in time for date-night, I painted my nails DND #751 Cherry Mocha.
3. Chocolate Glazed Donut-
A new take on a fall classic, the Chocolate Glazed donut effect can be achieved by toping any brown base coat (like DND #319 Coffee Bean) with a Chrome top coat. While this look is certainly yummy, just be aware that if you are going to get this look at a nail salon, Chrome top coats typically come with an extra charge.
4. Tortoise Shell-
While I typically think of nail art as being either “cutesy” or edgy, this gorgeous tortoise shell design by Nicola Rose proves that nail art can be sophisticated as well. Blending the moody hues of Mother Nature, this fashion-forward nail statement screams fall.
5. Off-Blacks-
When you want to rock an edgy look with a slightly softer side, going for an off-black with undertones of green, purple or navy is a great way to have the best of both worlds. To keep this look relevant even after Halloween, a shorter nail length works best.
