A Simple and Neutral Christmas Home Tour

Looking for a neutral, modern take on Christmas decorating with a little boho and farmhouse flair? Well you have come to the right place! Today, I have teamed up with 30 fabulous bloggers to share my holiday home tour for the 2020 Christmas Home Tour Blog Hop. Headed by my talented friend Marty of A Stroll Thru Life, you want to be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post to see all of the various decorating inspiration.
Hello friends and welcome to my 1980’s fixer upper.
If you are following along on the blog hop and have joined me from Life on Cedar Lane, welcome! I am absolutely obsessed with Andrea’s elegant and neutral aesthetic. What can I say? The girl has some mad decorating skills.
For those of you who are new to my neck of the virtual woods, my name is Erica and I have been renovating my first fixer upper home for six years now.
I am a potty-mouth boy mama who strives to live beautifully (home, body and soul) on a budget.
While my decorating style has evolved quite a bit over the years, lately I have been inspired by minimalist, modern organic design. I also do my best to blend my love for boho, farmhouse and even modern glam into the mix.
With all of the chaos of this crazy year, I challenged myself to keep this year’s holiday decor simple, stress-free and approachable.
Last January, feeling suffocated by all of the seasonal clutter in my garage, I actually donated most of my Christmas decorations.
Unfortunately, I went a little overboard with last year’s purging, as I did have to break down and invest in a few new pieces this year (tree collar, 2 pieces of garland and one set of stockings to be exact).
On the topic of “new”, I am proud to say that this is the first official blog hop tour I have done with my new floating hardwood floors.
This summer my husband and I went thru the undertaking of installing wide-plank, oak hardwoods throughout our entire home. To learn more about the floors and to see how we installed them directly over our old, existing floors, click here for the step-by-step tutorial.
Updating our floors allowed me to experiment more with my style in the living room – feeling less constrained, I have added a little more of the modern glam elements I have always lusted after. To see the full details on my living room transformation, click here.
Among a color palette of mainly black and white, I included punches of copper and beige to add some warmth and dimension.
For a wintery glam effect, I incorporated more velvet and fur textiles into my usual/everyday decor scheme.
As far as that holiday “bling” is concerned, the Christmas tree ornaments were a nice addition to the metallic gold pieces I already have styled through out my home.
In fact, I would argue that you really don’t need much to make a space feel festive.
Hell….it’s 2020! Let’s not complicate our lives more than necessary.
As long as you have some fresh greenery, twinkling lights, candles and fur textiles, you are set!
No need to bog yourself down with trinkets(no matter how tempting) which will not only drain your wallet, but contribute to clutter. Keep it simple it and stress-free!
And because I am such a slacker this year, I lured some of you here with a shot of my bedroom from last year’s tour…
I did not want to let you down, so -full disclosure- I am just going to include it in this year’s tour (although my bedroom is not even decorated this year!) Simply put, I was too lazy to move the makeshift gym out of my bedroom to take presentable photos for you guys.
If you would like to see more details on my bedroom, you can click here.
For your shopping convenience, I have included some affiliate links from my home tour directly below…
