How I Wrap Christmas Presents

How I Wrap Christmas Presents

Sharing is caring!

With the recent loss of my Grandmother, this Christmas is going to be a tough one. Actually, I cannot imagine Christmas without her, but I guess I will have to power through this year.

See…my Grandmother was always the life of any family gathering. Vibrant and funny as hell. I can see her with big teased hair, dressed in all black, holding a glass of cheap Champagne( looking like Elizabeth Taylor )and always saying something wildly inappropriate.

Like the time she met my husband, then boyfriend, and said, “Honey, you can eat crackers in my bed any day.” She told it like it was and God how I miss that.

One thing I continually find myself cracking up about is how she used to wrap our Christmas presents. I don’t know where she found them, but every year she stuffed our presents in these gigantic trash bags. The bags came in holiday colors….and everybody got one. The bags were typically stuffed full of items she had bought from QVC over the months leading up to Christmas.

And while she may have had a bit of a QVC addiction,  she was one smart lady…why waste all of your time wrapping gifts when you can just toss them all in a Christmas, themed trash bag? I am going to miss those.

So, this year, pregnant and exhausted…I have decided to take after my Grandmother. No, I cannot find the holiday-themed trash bags, but I am tossing everyone’s gifts into gift bags. That is how I wrap presents.

I know as a design blogger, I should be wrapping my presents like all of my amazing peers, but this year  I am just not feeling it and I don’t give a damn what anyone thinks. This is one of the character traits of my late Grandmother’s that I trying to embrace.

I have got to be true to myself, and I have warned ya’ll before that I am no Martha Stewart nor do I really aspire to be.  So go ahead, and laugh at my half-assed attempts, but deep down I know my Grandmother would be proud.

Enjoy this holiday with your family and friends and just know, none of us are guaranteed another year. So make it your best.

Now get out there and design some good vibes, and so what if you throw all of your presents in a gift bag? There are more significant matters to stress over.

Erica your grandmother sounds like she was a truly remarkable lady. I'm sorry for your loss. But I know she would have been proud of ou because you too are an original by forging your own path and not aspiring to be Martha! Why be a Martha when you can be an Erica??. You want to do something different and I admire you for that. Anyway I thnk your little bags are adorable. There should be no rules for this kind of stuff. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother Erica... how you describe her you must have had a special relationship with her and it sounds like you had lots of fun times with her. I think tossing presents into gift bags is a brilliant idea, looks awesome, is easy and sometimes you even get to use them again, haha...I once framed one because it was so nice... And so happy to hear that you're pregnant! Congrats, that's awesome!!! I have two...two girls... so much fun!
