How to build a wood fireplace mantel  on the cheap!

Wanna see how some fresh paint and  a cheap DIY wood mantel transformed my outdated fireplace?

Before:

In this easy tutorial, I am going to show you how to build this wood beam mantel for just $30 and in under 2 hours.

After:

Supplies Needed:

– Common Board  – finishing nails and hammer – Circular Saw or Mitre Saw – Wood Stain  – Foam Brush and Rag to apply stain

Cut the top board  and face boards to desired dimensions. This depends on the length of your fireplace.

step 1

Nail all sides of the boards together. Tip:  Start by nailing sides of mantel to top board.

step 2

Once  mantel is assembled, you can distress boards if desired and then stain.  To mimic the look of oak, I used a custom formula.

step 3
