How to build a wood mantel for $30!

Wanna see how some fresh paint and  a DIY rustic, wood mantel transformed this outdated fireplace in my 1980's living room?

Before:

I am going to show you how I built this wood beam mantel for just $30 and in less than 2 hours.

After:

Supplies Needed:

– Common Board  – finishing nails and hammer – Circular Saw or Mitre Saw – Wood Stain  – Foam Brush and Rag to apply stain

Cut the top board the length of the mantel. Cut face board length of mantel PLUS an additional 1.5”. Then cut 1. Cut face board length of mantel PLUS an additional 1.5”.

Nail all sides of the boards together using  6 D 1.5” finish nail with nail set.  Start by nailing sides to top board.

Once  mantel is assembled, you can distress boards if desired and then stain.
