While I refer to Mud Cloth as a super trendy textile  (remember how popular Chevron was a few years ago? I think this might be the new “it” pattern… let’s just hope we don’t all get super burnt out on it as we did with Chevron), Mud Cloth actually traces all the way back to ancient Africa. Orginating in Mali, each symbol, even the order of symboling, held a special meaning. Unfortumately I am no historian or Mud Cloth guru, so I have no clue what my symbols represent. They could be saying to screw off. Who knows? I just like the earthy, rustic essence of the pattern.

Anyhow, if you are looking for a super soothing, monotonus type of DIY that is great for kids, this super easy tutorial fits the bill.  Transform your boring, traditional wrapping into a boho-chic, work of art.

Materials:

First, I researched images of mud cloth patterns. Then, I practiced a few patterns on my wrapping paper.

Then, I wrapped my present with the unmarked, white paper. Once the present was wrapped, I began drawing patterns on the paper with my sharpie.

I preferred drawing on the wrapped present so I didn’t waste time on scraps of paper that would just be thrown away. And please don’t judge my present wrapping abilities. I know…it is pretty bad.

You see guys, I am no Martha Stewart, but I am trying to get out of my comfort zone and craft so you don’t grow too bored of me.

Now for a preview of my Christmas Home tour which goes live next Thursday, December 1st……

I cannot wait to share the rest with you. I shot and edited photos all weekend like a crazy person.
