Summer Eclectic Home Tour

Summer Eclectic Home Tour

I’ve said it before and I will say it again- I am not much of a seasonal decorator.  With my obsessive tendencies, particularly as it relates to my own home,  I tend to have a hard time getting it just the way I want it and when I finally do achieve a desirable balance, I am not all that  eager to tamper with the mix  as it  could very well could set me off on an unnecessary shopping spree-sort of a domino effect  (I am just effing crazy like that).

But when my wildly talented buddy Jess of Domicile 37 invited me to be a part of an eclectic summer home tour consisting of 17 incredibly skillful designers and bloggers, I was so honored I knew I had to participate. I thought it would also be a great opportunity to showcase all of the recent updates we have made to our 1980’s fixer upper home.

Beginning with the kitchen, we added cone pendant lights over the island which I made for $50/light and you can view the tutorial here. Don’t be intimidated….it is super easy.

We also replaced a rotted sliding door with custom-cut glass which was framed to look like a window- saving us a good chunk of cash.

Lately I have been swooning over blue and pink color combinations as they relate to textiles. As a result,  I traded out my red accent pillows for a pink, hand-sewn quilt and some Peruvian pillow covers.

I also found a way to inject a bit more of my personality and love for music with The Beatles and Led Zeppelin art work (I am currently in search of a Grateful Dead print that speaks to me and flows with my color scheme).

I threw some authentic, Moroccan poufs into the mix and I am so thrilled with the result.

In the foyer, I traded out a white and grey geometric rug , for a vintage-inspired variety. And no, this was not solely inspired by cosmetic drive but for functional reasons….I needed a rug that was better at hiding mud and dirt.

Still loving my DIY art work in the dining room (check out the tutorial here).

I also decided to change up the styling on my mirrored console- balancing out the glitz of the mirrored medium with more natural, organic elements.

Back in February, I painted and re-styled my once out-dated bedroom. You can read about that transformation here .

Around the same time we completed the bedroom makeover, my husband also built a custom mudroom for around $200. Click here for that tutorial .

And here is the bulk of where we have had to invest our energy over the past few months, friends…….

backyard transformation reveal

This was an absolute nightmare of a project and the synopsis of the drama goes a little something like this…

Tear down an existing deck due to some structural concerns only to find you will also have to excavate and demolish an existing pool as the walls were rusted through to the liner (all while a sorry-a$$ contractor takes off with $2000 never to return or render any service or material, and your whole septic system goes kaput). You really cant make this crap up.

That being said, we survived our fixer upper fiasco and are so pleased with how it all turned out.
