My Toddler’s Coastal Nursery

My Toddler’s Coastal Nursery

In the wonderful world of blogging, there seems to be an understood code among bloggers: the week between Christmas and New Years is vastly considered a time to rest, relax and unplug. While I have greatly enjoyed my week long hiatus, I had to busy myself with something. So, I finally decided to paint my two year old’s bedroom.

Here is what the room looked like when we first moved in….

The paint color was not that bad, so we left the walls untouched for almost an entire year. My main complaint with the room was actually the paint on the ceiling. Someone had the brilliant idea of painting the textured ceiling in a glossy, off-white (almost yellow) paint. Yuck….

It’s like someone said, “I really want to emphasize the details of the popcorn ceiling and give it a dingy vibe. ” The ceiling was our first endeavor. Here is a photo of the ceiling after we painted it white (but had yet cut the perimeter in)….

See how yellow the original paint was? Yuck! We contemplated also removing the texture on the ceiling, but since it had obviously already been painted over, we really didn’t feel like messing with it.  Eventually, we will probably add beadbooard planking to it like we did in our dining room.

For the wall paint, we went with Sherwin William’s Silver Strand.  The paint is a favorite of my idol, Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper, so I had to give it a try.

The color is actually very similar to the main color of our home.

Silver Strand is a light grey with mainly blue undertones. At times, some green undertones surface (nicely adding some warmth).

While white or linen curtains look amazing against Silver Strand,  I already had these grey blackout curtains from our previous home and they are actually essential in blocking the light out during my son’s nap time.I may change them once he has graduated from naps, but for now they shall remain.

This old hutch actually used to be in my room when I was a little girl. I simply put new hardware on it, but eventually I will paint it.

The hutch works great as a place for book storage and I am able to hide toys away in the bottom, storage cabinets.

Next on the agenda is getting my son a big-boy bed as I am going to be using this same crib in my other son’s room…he is due in April. His nursery is next on our agenda.

Now get out there and design some good vibes! Wishing you a happy New Year full of productivity and fresh starts.
