My Rustic Glam Christmas Tour – Part 1

My Rustic Glam Christmas Tour – Part 1

Sharing is caring!

Welcome to part 1 of my rustic glam Christmas tour, ya’ll. Pour yourself some whiskey or wine, crank up the Frank Sinatra holiday music and get comfy. If you are coming here from Lehman Lane, I am so glad to have you here.

In an effort to spare you such a lengthy post, I have broken up my tour into different parts (hence the “Part 1” of this title)…I got carried away with the photos.

Let’s start with the heart of our home, the living room.

For those of you new to my blog, this room has gone through a dramatic transformation. We have been in our 1980’s rancher for eight months now, and have remodeled the home one room at a time. If you haven’t seen the before and afters, click here.

So, I  tried the whole traditional Christmas thing long ago…ya know? With the red and green. It just never feels like “me”. Not to say it doesn’t look great in other homes, it just doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of my decor.

Because my house has such a light and airy vibe, I start my Christmas decorating attempts by first adding warmth with fur textiles like my cow hide rug and my furry pillows. To give the room some Christmas flare, I add pops of metallic “bling” with sequin  pillows and mercury glass candles.

Loving this rustic glam candle holder I got from Homegoods. What I escpecially like about these decor elements are that I can leave them up all winter long…. they aren’t  so “themey” that it looks odd being on display past January.

One of the most depressing things in life (ok, I am exaggerating a bit) is taking down your Christmas tree and decor on New Years day. Well, that and stepping on the scale after you’ve binged  on cookies for an entire month.

I would describe my Christmas decor style as rustic glam. I love the bling and shine of  gold and silver metallics, but prefer balancing it all out with the earthy elements of all things rustic.

I am such a contradiction…how could my decor not reflect that? Glam stockings against an earthy, rustic mantel? Such a reflection of the paradox I am.

By the way, my Christmas tree is not finished. You are going to have to tune back in when I release my post focusing just on the tree.

Let’s move on to the kitchen.

I didn’t get too carried away here.

I just added a glam wreath around my rustic taxidermy.

I also put up this cute little owl print I got for just $5. I have always had a thing for owls and I think the tones used in this piece provide some nice, winter vibes.

Now before I take you to the dining room, I need to warn you a bit…..

For quite some time, there have been no kids in our family (until my baby came along recently). That meant, Christmas was one big cocktail party for our immediate family. No formal dinner…no gift exchange… just the company of family with appetizers, adult beverages and Bing Crosby or Dean Martin playing in the background.

That being said…please don’t judge my holiday table. We are not alcoholics- I promise!

As I said, Christmas in our family is typically celebrated on Christmas Eve. Everyone brings an appetizer and a nice bottle of booze to exchange in lieu of gifts.

It really takes all of the stress and pressure out of the holidays.

Enough of my tangent. On with the tour.

This year, I tried to use decor that I already owned, but I did purchase these wine glasses from Homegoods. I thought they would fit my rustic-glam theme perfectly.

I added some garland in here as well. Garland is such a simple way to incorporate the Holidays .I love the warmth and rustic essence of it.

Of course no rustic-glam table would be complete without mercury glass votives and pine cones.

Another one of my favorite ways to add Holiday cheer to the home is by placing ornaments in glass vases and jars. The ornaments used in the display above are actually antique, glass ornaments handed down to me from my mom. Unfortunately, my son got into some of the glass “balls” and shattered them. So, I had to remove them from the tree. I think they are safe in the little jar.

I also added some warmth to this bright and airy dining room by draping gray sheepskin and throws over the chairs. To glam it up a bit, I used some sequin pillows at the captain’s chairs.

Now,  it would not be responsible of me to send you off with all of this booze without making you first sober up on some cookies and milk.
